Each treatment is unique, depending on the needs of the client.
Adults will generally lie face up on the massage table. Unlike traditional massage, clients do not need to remove clothing, but may if they prefer. I will do an assessment to determine the first place of priority where the client’s body is needing support, and will do a gentle hold there- the pressure is about the weight of a nickel. I will always let you know where I’m going to place my hands before placing them there, and then I will stay there until the area releases. Sometimes the area releases with the physical hold and energy, and at times if there are emotional layers of holding we can use dialoguing as a tool to release those layers if the client feels comfortable doing so.
For children, each session is also unique and tailored to the needs, age and development of the child. They can be wherever they feel most comfortable — lying on the table, on the floor with a book or puzzle, etc. I will explain everything I do before placing my hands, etc and will check in frequently. A parent is typically present for the whole session, but sometimes that is not necessary with older kids/teens.
For babies I typically go to the family’s home, which allows the session to be flexible, dynamic and shift to easily meet the baby’s needs as they change throughout the session. I can hold the baby and do the treatment while walking around, bouncing them, while they are held by or on a parent, as they sleep and/or while nursing/feeding.

This depends on what issue/s the client is needing support with, and I can usually get a sense of it by the end of the first session. Sometimes there are big results in one or two sessions, sometimes it can take more or ongoing sessions. Children and babies tend to respond quickly, but the amount of sessions needed also depends on what is going on in the body.
